discover south west

Discover South West is a foodie adventure tour business that connects food lovers to the source in the South West of Sydney. The region is close enough to the Sydney CBD to access in under an hour, yet far enough away to escape the city hustle and bustle. Wollongong, the Blue Mountains, and the Southern Highlands are under an hour away, so the area serves as an ideal base for exploring surrounding regions as well.

My name is Tina and I founded Discover South West in 2019. I’ve lived in the Macarthur-Wollondilly area all my life and I love it to bits. From the early morning sounds of cows calling to be milked on the hills, to the birds chirping in the Dharawal National Park, to the sun setting on the fertile farmlands; there’s no place I’d rather live. It’s a place where you can watch hot air balloons float by, breathe in fresh air, and enjoy the open space. Aside from the sensory appeal, the area is home to many farms and small producers, restaurants and cafes, micro-breweries, and a winery or two. The one thing you can’t help but notice everywhere you go is the strong sense of community and pride that the locals have for their region.

My tourism roots go back over 30 years when I worked in a local travel agency for my grandmother. Since then I’ve held differing positions in the industry that have included corporate travel, meeting and events, tourism education, and inbound visitor management. It was when I was showcasing Australia to the rest of the world, that I realised we have something so special here that many Australians haven’t noticed is in their own backyard. I wanted to change that so I started meeting with local farmers to set about turning my idea into an experience that not only included enjoying flavours at the farms, but where people can learn about sustainability and meet the growers on their farms. The many farmers I have met along the way have been inspiring, helpful and resilient. For all of these reasons I wanted to show others about this special part of Australia.
